Jonathan Schmidt is a force of nature. The ideas, craft and wisdom in his work seem to be the product of

a master. His devotion to illustration, his insatiable appetite for the history of Art give strength and weight to his work. This extraordinary artistic chameleon can produce the most amazing work

that ranges from the classical, to echoes ofthe greatest illustrators up to date with a sweet production of strange and decidedly iconoclastic imagery. His portraits penetrate the depths of the people, with the visible warmth and respect he

feels for his subjects, coupled, of course, with the unbridled playfulness of his restless hands apparent in each picture. When he does the portrait of a place, a countryside, a building or a city landscape, he shows a balance of story-telling and takes adventurous liberties withthe structures to enhance and enliven even the most inanimate objects. These cityscapes and its people are dancing with energy,

street life and countrysides that sing songs of joy

tothe beauty and mystery of its topography.  An indomitable glass of wine that turns into a psychological inkblot, all these works speak

of skill and intellect of a young illustrator with

more than a touch of greatness in his work.
